TOP FIVE BEAUTY TOOLS

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

While I have nothing against applying a lovely dewy foundation with my fingers for a natural finish, I am a firm believer that good beauty tools can make all the difference when it comes to getting that flawless ‘my skin but better’ makeup look we all desire.

So, I have decided to share my five essential beauty tools that I believe every girl (or boy) should own!

top five brushes

1. Real Techniques Blush Brush // Despite the name, I don’t actually use this brush for applying blush as I find it slightly too big. However, it applies all over face powder like a dream and is great for effortlessly blending bronzer onto the neck and torso. It does an amazing job at distributing product evenly and making everything look soft and natural.

2. NARS Yachiyo Kabuki Brush // Since discovering this little gem, I can’t imagine my makeup routine without it. This is the answer to perfect blush application – the domed design is perfectly shaped to fit the apples of the cheeks and blend seamlessly, delivering the perfect amount of colour every time. Oh, and if you’re wondering why the handle looks hand-made, that’s because it is! – Inspired by traditional Japanese beauty rituals, each brush is hand-spun with black wisteria to add to its unique character (how’s that for special!?).

3. Real Techniques Buffing Brush // The densely packed bristles in this brush create an airbrushed effect on the skin, making it ideal for blending concealer under the eyes and on any imperfections you may have. It also does an excellent job of applying foundation and cream blushes/bronzers/highlighters – the perfect multi-tasker if you’re out and about or travelling!

4. BareMinerals Precision Face Brush // Ok, I’m just going to come right out and say it – this is the BEST foundation brush ever! (and believe me, I have tried a lot). It smooths on makeup like no other, never leaves streaks and gives the perfect amount of coverage. Not to mention the angled bristles make it perfect for blending around the nose and eyes. It is beyond amazing!

5. Beauty Blender // Whether it’s for applying foundation, concealer, cream brush/bronzer/highlighter, or touching up your makeup after a long day, the beauty blender is a definite must have. The trick – always make sure the sponge is damp before use for flawless application and an amazing dewy finish.

This is the secret weapon for dehydrated skin, I have only been using it for a week and my skin is already looking plumper and healthier! M&M’s Crispy Speckled Eggs // It is nearly Easter which means the release of multiple scrumptious but limited treats. However, these aren’t just any easter goodies.. they are the most delicious morsels any candy/chocolate fan could wish for.  I am truly dreading the end of Easter when the supermarkets stop selling these little pieces of heaven. Please don’t take them away from me!!

It is so luxurious and has the most amazing velvet texture that glides over the skin and masks imperfections like nobody’s business. Great work Terry, I’ll definitely be adding more of your gems to my collection!

Maurie & Eve Boss Skirt // Of course I had to include this velvet beauty. I hunted far and wide for the sold out in minutes Maurie and Eve Boss skirt and finally managed to get my hands on one – compliments of my very kind and patient Australian based Aunty (thank you Aunty Anna!).

Essie Find Me An Oasis // So fresh and so clean clean. Remember my post about my obsession with the colour duck egg blue? Enough said.

LUPITA NYONG’O OSCARS INSPIRED

It’s common for fashion loving Oscar viewers to have a number of looks they adore on the red carpet and I’m usually part of that majority. But for the 2014 Oscars there was one look that I loved so much, as soon as I saw it I completely lost interest in everything else and spent the rest of my afternoon intermittently glancing at the television screen with my main focus on Google, where I searched frantically for more picture of the heavenly dress and the celebrity who did it such justice! It was, Lupita Nyong’o in Prada.

Now, it’s common knowledge that Lupita Nyong’o never looks short of amazing, but WOW. Such a beautiful dress on such a stunning lady! I have always loved the colour “duck egg blue”, as Ryan Seacrest so brilliantly described it, and this dress rekindled my obsession, while confirming that yes it is indeed my all time favourite colour (for now). So with this in mind, I have been on a mission to add more bluey tones to my wardrobe and have put together my current duck egg blue inspired wish list to share with you.

TOP FIVE | PERFUMES

Chloe Eau De Parfum – If I could only pick one fragrance to wear for the rest of my life this would be it. There’s just something irresistible about Chloe – The best way to describe the scent is a feminine powdery rose with a hint of Lychee and honey that is perfect for night-time occasions and cooler months. Not to mention the lasting power is amazing – I’ve often smelt the scent lingering on my clothes even after they’ve been through the washing machine. A must have for every perfume collection.

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum – Another rose infused scent, it was love at first sniff. Coco Mademoiselle is a very rich and luxurious perfume and one that I keep for special occasions. When wearing this I feel polished and feminine, not too mature yet not too girly (and it never fails to attract some compliments).

Escentric Molecules Molecule 02 – This is a very fragile, non-obtrusive scent – I like to think of it as a hide and go seek scent – one moment you can smell something, then the next its gone but the person next to you can smell it – some people never smell it, some are crazy about it. I find it so fascinating and addictive, and the way it adapts differently to each persons natural scent is amazing!

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh – During the warmer months I like to wear a scent that is light and fresh, but for a long time I struggled to find one that didn’t smell like bubblegum, cotton candy and rainbows – until I came across Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh. It is soft and refreshing with a fruity floral twist, and although it doesn’t seem to last all that long on the skin, it gives me the perfect whimsical spritz of sunshine in a bottle – and speaking of that bottle, well, it’s enough reason to buy the perfume – scent aside.

Yves Saint Laurent Elle – This is one of my oldest perfumes but unlike many others that have come and gone, Elle has always remained one of my favourite scents. While growing up, I had a huge crush on Yves Saint Laurent Cinema but since it is marketed as a more ‘mature’ scent I thought it probably wasn’t quite right for me at that age (I’m talking 15), especially since all the other girls around me were wearing perfumes by Britney Spears and JLo. But then *dramatic pause.. Elle was born, a scent with similar notes to Cinema, yet it had a youthful whisper – lets call it Cinema’s younger sister  – and so began our love affair.
